Singapore's First Neighbourhood Pool

Queenstown Swimming Complex opened on 15 August 1970 as part of Queenstown Sports Complex, Singapore's first neighbourhood sports facility. It was inaugurated by Lim Kim San, then Minister for Education, on a 10-acre site between Stirling Road and Mei Chin Road.

The original complex had five pools: a 50-metre Olympic competition pool, a 10-metre diving pool, a teaching pool, a children's pool and a toddler wading pool. For over 50 years, it was where Queenstown residents learnt to swim, trained laps before work, and brought their kids on weekends.

The complex also produced national athletes. A water polo team formed here in 1971 under coach Kenneth Kee, drawing players from nearby secondary schools. That team won gold at the 1979 Southeast Asian Games.

Original Facilities (1970 to 2023)

Before closing for redevelopment on 15 May 2023, the complex had:

50m Olympic competition pool (8 lanes)
10m diving pool with platforms
Teaching pool
Children's pool
Toddler wading pool
400m running track & football field
3,000-seat spectator gallery

What's Coming in April 2026

Sport Singapore is rebuilding the pool pavilion, adding a gym, and opening up more of the grounds for public use.

Modern competition swimming pool with turquoise water and lane dividers

Rejuvenated Pool Pavilion

The old complex had five pools. The new one will have a competition pool and a teaching pool. Sport Singapore hasn't confirmed whether the diving pool is coming back.

Outdoor playground and green space at a Singapore HDB estate

Free-to-Play Spaces

More open ground for casual use. The current site is mostly fenced off, so this should give residents somewhere to kick a ball around or just sit.

Modern gym with weight machines and natural light

New Gym Annex

The original complex had no gym. The new annex adds activity rooms and fitness equipment, so you won't need a separate gym membership.

Accessible ramp with stainless steel handrails

Improved Accessibility

The old complex was built in 1970 and wasn't designed with wheelchair access in mind. The rebuild adds ramps, accessible changing rooms and pool entry points.
